The Story: Two coworkers have a conversation about the philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche.
Production Notes: The script for this short was written in August of 2002. We had just completed “The Last Patrol” and “The Quotient of all Anxieties” and we were ready for a new project. We were inspired to make a gangster flick after watching Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. Andrew came up with the idea of two gangsters sitting at a table talking about philosophy while a third man, their hostage, sat tied to a chair next to them. We thought this was a great opening scene for what could be a really cool gangster film. We even had a name for it, “The Black Tie Affair.” However we were never able to get it off the ground and we ditched the script. Nearly a year later we decided to resurrect the idea and give it a new angle. Just as a side note: what Ezekiel says in this movie does not necessarily reflect our religious beliefs, we just like hate mail.
Cast and Crew:
Andrew Isaac as Ezekiel
Jared Marshall as Samuel

Nietzsche rejects standards of comparison that are based on objective truth because can be nothing more than a person’s perspective. However, in the place of objective truth/untruth he begs us to use life — affirming/denying as a standard of comparison. If you give him even a half-ass read you can’t help but see what Nietzsche fears most: nihilism. Something which this scene exemplifies… oh the irony!
These guys should make a video about how to shot web
That was great. All the haters are losers. I get so tired of people that criticize everything on here. What have you all ever done worthwhile?
Ok, on a more serious note: I think the production value in this isn’t all that bad. Perhaps it could be salvaged as a film -about- misinterpratation of Nietzsche?
agry…
looooooool
letmesignupalready is right. i agree with him. that’s it.
it’s nietzche! not nietzchee!! he was bloody german, so pronounce his name like you should.
exactly– I don’t think this guy ever read past the ‘god is dead’ passage in the Gay Science.
Thank you
My guess is he didn’t get past the first 3 seconds of the “Giants of Philsophy” tapes’ “Nietzsche” issue (narrated by Charelton Heston no less)
So the half of us who don’t believe in creationism are half-wits? Arrogant prick.
That was awsome!! I love the interaction between the two of them and the monologue of the philosophy reader on the right. Great stuff!!!
hmm its nietzsche actually
This is too “Hollywood” for my tastes. I demand that your character be more at ease, and try not to stress the point so much.
Nietzsche was a fool to spit on Schopenhauer, his philosophy of saying “yes to life” is one of the most unintelligent doctrines in philosophy ever seen.
You Americans need a slap in the face for your childish behavior that makes the world know how to better themselves because you are their mirror.
Who are “you Americans”? He called all Americans half-wits, when that’s not true of a fairly good percentage of us. This America-bashing bandwagon that mainly Europeans and others including Americans are jumping on is what’s childish.
The majority of Americans are half-wits believe it or not, and the intelligent ones are still brainwashed patriotic sheep even if they hate Bush. A la, Matt Stone and Trey Parker or blurt out stupid crap like “If you don’t like the game, leave the stadium” even if they don’t have the money to leave the country and justified America for it’s warmongering.
*who blurt out
I know most Americans are half-wits, but most Europeans I’ve dealt with have been half-wits (in their own way); I would agree that Europeans have done some things Americans should emulate. There are people who would like to improve this country that aren’t “brainwashed patriotic sheep”. I don’t mean to stir up any shit with you personally. I just find these generalizations do more harm than good.
That’s good, but I doubt it’s going to change with the state of the country going into such a deep abyss.
Yes, the power of stupid people in large groups does concern me. Hopefully, the people who know what has to be done can get organized before it’s too late.
To start with, you need to go against people even like the creators of South Park, go against the pop-bubble gum culture and most of all go against the support of extreme capitalist dogma’s and the appalling lack of education and medicare. Of coarse, we here in Australia copy America so much we’ll soon be going down the abyss too. I also blame America for spreading the rediculously hypocritical religion of Christianity to weak people across the world.
[..YouTube..] Ah, poor Nietzsche, so many people misunderstand his philosophy.
[..YouTube..] Word on that quote.

[..YouTube..] Stop with the “American” shenanigans. You don’t know me, boy. Actually, I’m quite clever. I run a successful business dealing with moron Australians day after day, most of whom can’t even effectively read the time from a clock, let alone pronounce “Nietzsche” properly. Also, I’d stomp you and eat your silly foppish adolescent heart as a side dish, so die in a fire for me kthxbye

[..YouTube..] theist’s perception indeed! Finally someone told the filmmakers precisely what they’ve represented here: a theist’s perception. American pop culture has collapsed and distorted God is Dead through Nine Inch Nails: Reznor’s morbidity, perhaps existentialism, has left a lot of the world believing that N wants to F you like an animal.

[..YouTube..] Neech-uh or nee-chuh is best for clumsy Western tongues. Eine is pronounced aye-nuh, meiner is pronounced miner. Those e words actually don’t need an R sound.

[..YouTube..] hey i agree that they got the jist of hius ideas wrong in my idea and also they kinda misread hobes but also most fo you need to read Deleuze and guattari, then you will learn that we must not just repeat other peoples ideas but use them to form our own or we just commodify

[..YouTube..] my interpretation of the vid: the guy who misinterprets nietzche is refuted on every other point by the other guy – he is being painted as a foolish character; thus the incorrect interpretation at the end is meant to be seen by the viewer as incorrect. but hey, ’s all subjective right? i could be wrong. Nice production as others have said (though i kept waitin for a shot of mr misinterpretation adding a polaroid of the other guy to those behind him, implying he killed all them)

[..YouTube..] Nietzsche was the greatest philosopher ever. If you can’t see that you are truly ignorant and likely prejudice. Do you also think he supported the Nazi ideology? There are a lot of misconceptions about Nietzsche. If you don’t like Nietzsche please don’t say it because you are Christian, or Jewish. Secular people all love him. almost all.

[..YouTube..] complete pretensiouse crap
complete pretensiouse crap
[..YouTube..] if Nietzsche is the greatest philosopher, and his philosophy points to the lack of meaning in life, then why is philosophy a more worthy pursuit than anything. there is no worth, nothing better than anything else, so to say something is “essential reading” is shite if you subscribe to Nietzsche, which the guy with the tie seems to do. oh and also this is indeed complete pretentious crap. eg. the piano in the background, it makes it seem like a parody of itself. laughable, while interesting.
