ALCS

Game 1 was beautiful. Completely shut down Sabathia, and Beckett was great as usual. I knew Game 2 wasn’t going to be as good, but I had faith in Schilling. As a Red Sox fan, how can you not? It’s Curt Schilling. Of course he’s not the same pitcher he was during the 2004 ALCS, but still. And he did have some troubles last night, and Francona probably took him out a couple pitches too late. But Carmona wasn’t nearly as detrimental to our lineup as we thought he was going to be, which was great. And then along came their relief pitchers… who were amazing. Mastny… one, two, three… against the heart of our lineup. And then along came Gagne.

Now I was excited when the Red Sox signed Gagne, here’s a guy who was once an amazing closer. Recent injures had left him a bit hobbled, but a majority thought coming to Boston would be a shot in the arm. Maybe Gagne could come in and Papbelbon would slowly be convinced to become a starter. This wasn’t the case. Gagne stunk even worse. So when Francona called for him in the 11th inning last night, Red Sox nation was silent. What the fuck is gonna happen now. And we had the right to be concerned. Gagne planted the runners that would begin the Indian’s record-setting seven-run 11th inning. I just hope Dice-K is well-enough rested for Game 3.
